Renewable Heat Incentive

23rd February, 2010

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is an important step for heatpumps. Below is some information from the Renewable Energy Association with industry predictions of the tariffs that will be available and for how long.

For a fairly typical family house, 120 sqM, requiring 25,000 kWh per year for heating and hot water, electricity to drive an air source heat pump will be in the region of £1,100 per year at 11p per unit. The RHI will pay £1875 per year leaving a net profit of £775 per year for the householder. The scheme is predicted to run for 18 years which equates to nearly £14,000 at current prices.

This is a very strong incentive for people to consider heatpumps, who might not have seen the financial benefit in the past.
